First workshop for preparation of the Local Strategy for adaptation of the health sector to the climate change for the Municipality of Stip was held in Shtip

Within the project “Climate friendly health institutions” The Clinical Hospital from Stip as a partner in the project on 16.03.2021 organized the first workshop for preparation of the Local Strategy for adaptation of the health sector to the climate change for the Municipality of Stip.

The workshop has been attended by the representatives of the municipality of Stip, medical and non-medical staff from the Clinical hospital in Stip.
The workshop has been opened with a welcome speech by the Project Coordinator Dr. Denis Zernovski, and the main expert for preparation of the local strategy for adaptation of the health sector to the climate change for the Municipality of Stip Prof. dr. Mihail Kochubovski gave introductory explanations about the need for preparation such a strategy at the local level, as well as the process for preparing the strategy.

The goals and purpose of this strategy are also has been elaborated. The strategy aims to review the situation with climate change at the local level and across the border region, defining the challenges that climate change poses to human health, the strategic approach to their mitigation or adaptation and defining policies for adaptation to these climate changes in terms of public health. The strategy itself will be a key document for local government and the health sector to incorporate climate change into existing and new health programs and to reduce the risk of climate change consequences such as natural disasters, new diseases, and reducing the risk of contingencies. During the workshop many of the participants actively participated in the discussion, and the director of the Clinical Hospital from Stip dr. Alen Georgiev stressed the importance of the strategy itself, but also of the project as a whole.

Conclusion of the workshop was that the municipality of Stip and the health institutions need such a document that will serve as a basis for defining the policies in the public health from the aspect of the impact of the climate change.
