Opening conference for presentation of the project “Climate friendly healthcare institutions”

An opening conference on the project “Climate friendly healthcare institutions” was held on July 7, 2020 at 11 am in the town of Gotse Delchev. The organizer of the event was the Municipality of Gotse Delchev, which is the leading beneficiary of the project. At the conference were presented the goals, the most important activities and the expected results of their implementation.

The project is funded by the Cross-Border Cooperation Program INTERREG – IPA CBC Bulgaria – Republic of North Macedonia and is directly addressed to one of the main challenges for humanity – climate change and the consequences of climate change in every area of human society. There is a strong and growing global scientific consensus that global warming is a fact and is detrimental to human health.

Therefore, the aim of the project is to strengthen health systems in dealing with health threats posed by climate change, including emergencies related to extreme weather events. Some of the activities envisage measures for mitigation and acceptance of climate change in Gotse Delchev – electrical installation and construction of photovoltaic systems up to 30kW and repair of the Internal Ward in Ivan Skenderov Hospital in Gotse Delchev.

Expected results from the project implementation are resource efficiency for Ivan Skenderov Hospital in Gotse Delchev by building a photovoltaic installation and repair of the Internal Ward, improving the capacity, qualification, knowledge in the field of diseases related to climate change by using of innovative solutions, modern equipment and practices; developed two strategies with certain measures for mitigation and acceptance of the consequences of climate change; conducting a public awareness and networking campaign and developing a web platform.
Gotse Delchev Municipality partners in the project are Clinical Hospital for Public Health – Shtip, Republic of North Macedonia.
